ATTENDANCE POLICIES
Students are encouraged to attend class since attendance is vital to successful academic achievement.  Students who do not attend class at least one of the first two weeks will be administratively dropped from the course.*
*For summer and irregularly scheduled classes, dates may vary.

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
To earn an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science or Associate of Applied Science degree, students must complete 64-66 semester credit hours, depending on the chosen program. If a student declares a second degree, a minimum of 15 additional semester credit hours in the program‘s core and concentration area must be taken. For further information, contact the Registrar’s Office.

ACADEMIC HONORS
Students who complete nine (9) credits or more in a semester and who achieve academic excellence are recognized each semester. Those who earn a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.74 are placed on the Achievement List. Those who earn a grade point average of 3.75 or above are placed on the President‘s List. Students who achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.70 or above at the time of graduation are recognized for academic honors: summa cum laude (3.90-4.00 GPA); magna cum laude (3.8-3.89 GPA); or cum laude (3.70-3.79 GPA) status is noted on the diploma. Students completing a certificate program with a grade point average of 3.70 or higher receive a diploma notation of With Honors.

ACADEMIC CREDIT
A college credit is a unit of measure used to quantify achievement in a college course, program or degree. A credit includes not just time in class, but also academic achievement. A student may obtain academic credit by completing course requirements as outlined in the various course descriptions. The standard for a three-semester credit course is 44 hours of total classroom instruction, plus the necessary hours outside of class to complete requirements. All credits require accomplishment of learning objectives established by the College and consistent with those of similar courses at other accredited institutions of higher learning.

The increased use of technology in education has modified the concept of how colleges award credit. Courses that are all on-line or hybrids stress acquisition of concepts and skills rather than time spent in a classroom. Students in such courses are expected to gain the required concepts and skills by involvement in independent activities designed and directed by qualified faculty.
